Bill O’Reilly has been forced out of his position at Fox News. Fox came to the decision to remove O’Reilly after the disclosure of several sexual harassment lawsuits against O’Reilly. His show’s removal brings about a very embarrassing and sudden end to his two decade career as one of the most popular TV commentators.
“After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel.” – 21st Century Fox
Mr. O’Reilly’s departure comes roughly 3 weeks after an article by The New York Times. The article exposed several sexual harassment lawsuits against O’Reilly. It accused Fox News of standing behind O’Reilly regardless of how many times he was sued. O’Reilly and Fox News settled with five women for a total of 13 million.
Since the article, more than 50 advertisers left the show. Turmoil was reported inside the company, women began questioning their bosses. Enough pressure was put on the Murdochs that they enlisted the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison to conduct an investigation into Mr. O’Reilly’s behavior after one woman called the company’s hotline to report her complaints. Another complaint was reported on Tuesday.
O’Reilly denies the accusations. His attorney claims this is a smear campaign against him:
“It is outrageous that an allegation from an anonymous person about something that purportedly happened almost a decade ago is being treated as fact, especially where there is obviously an orchestrated campaign by activists and lawyers to destroy Mr. O’Reilly and enrich themselves through publicity driven donations.” – Kasowitz
If he was innocent, he never should have settled with any of the 5 women. That’s an admission of guilt. You should never admit to a crime or action you didn’t commit, even if it’s more convenient. These things have a way of coming back to bite you in the *ss, just ask Bill O’Reilly…
