An 86-year-old veteran from Jacksonville Florida is in critical condition after an unknown attacker slashed his throat. Melvin Clark, 86, left his home on Saturday to run some errands. He didn’t return for a while and was later reported missing. A hunter located the Navy and Air Force veteran when he was checking on his tree stand. The veteran was covered in blood. He pulled himself out of a ditch to the roadway where he could be rescued.
The hunter called the police. Police were briefly able to speak to Clark as he was being loaded into an ambulance. He was airlifted to a trauma hospital where he would undergo surgery. There is no word on his condition other than that he is alive and in ICU, but is “not out of the woods” yet.
Police believe Clark fought off his attacker as there are stab wounds on the hand and a slash wound on the wrist. Police recovered Clark’s vehicle in Miami Florida. Local police are on their way to collect evidence from the vehicle. Tammy Damico, Clark’s daughter, can’t believe someone would do this to her father:
“He’s just a great guy, an all-around great guy. I can’t imagine somebody doing this to him, tossing him out like he’s somebody’s garbage.” – Tammy Damico
Police are searching for the person responsible for this brutal attack.
