80-year-old Veteran Gives Stranger $20, Gets Choked Nearly To Death

An 80-year-old veteran was nearly choked to death after he gave money to a stranger asking for help.

An 80-year-old veteran is recovering from his injuries after he was severely beaten for his hospitality. Richard Brown was outside his house by the road when he was approached by a man and a woman. The couple asked Brown for financial help. Brown gave the couple $20 dollars. This is when things take a dangerous turn.

After giving the couple money, Brown walked back into his house. This is when police say 35-year-old Joseph Daniel Bauguss followed Brown into the house. Bauguss beat up the 80-year-old veteran, and nearly choked him to death. After the beating, Bauguss took $100 dollars from the veteran and ran off. Bauguss said that while the beating was going on, the female stood by the phone and looked through his mail.

“I run in the house and they had come around here and I didn’t lock the door and he come in behind me. I didn’t even know I still had tonsils. He damn near choked me to death. Boy, he knocked the living hell out of me. My back still hurts. I just don’t understand why you can’t have any peace in the country.” – Richard Brown

Brown told the local media he wishes he had his gun at the time. Things would have ended differently. Police are still looking for Bauguss. Bauguss is 6 feet tall and weighs 230 pounds. He has blue eyes. He has tattoos of an anchor and a UFO on the right side of his neck. Bauguss has been convicted of robbery, breaking and entering and larceny in the past.

If you know where Bauguss is or have information for police, call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040 or the Covington Police Department at 859-292-2234.
