Michael Strickland is a Conservative Blogger/Activist from Portland Oregon. He maintains the Youtube channel “LaughingAtLiberals.” Strickland was recently convicted of 21 felony and misdemeanor charges after he defended himself against an attack by #blacklivesmatter activists. Now before we get into the how and the why, lets show you the video of the incident the 21 charges come from:
You can see a group of #blacklivesmatter protesters trying to surround Strickland. The same group of protesters just attended a rally where the speaker instructed them to pull their firearms and “bust” anyone who resists them. At first Strickland puts his hand on his holster to show the protesters he is armed. When that isn’t enough, Strickland pulls the gun and points it at the crowd. Strickland reholsters the weapon after the crowd backs off. You can see him say he was pushed and shoved and surrounded by the protesters immediately after. As a result of this, Strickland was tackled by the Swat team. Despite the fact that Strickland has a legal Conceal Carry permit he was arrested and charged with 10 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, 10 counts of menacing. His bail was set at $250,000.
Strickland often covered radical left events. Anyone paying attention to the media in 2016/2017 knows that covering leftist events can be a very dangerous business, especially if you’re a Conservative. Strickland was assaulted in the past by a journalist who disagreed with him. Strickland’s arm was broken in 3 separate places. The same local jurisdiction declined to prosecute the attacker though the evidence was captured on video. Strickland had a reason to carry a gun, and he has a legal conceal carry permit.
Convicted on 21 Counts
The video evidence nor the history of previously being assaulted spared Strickland. In his recent court case a judge convicted him of 10 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, 10 counts of menacing, and one count of second-degree disorderly conduct. In court he argued he was trying to defend himself and that he feared for his life. The prosecutors argued that he didn’t have a reasonable reason to fear for his life. The judge ended up siding with the prosecutors despite the overwhelming evidence supporting Strickland.
Sentencing in May
Now Strickland is sitting back watching the time. Strickland is to be sentenced later in May. It’s expected he’ll face significant jail time due to the severity of the charges. There’s no Calvary coming to back Strickland up either. The mainstream media has all but ignored the case. Google his name “Michael Strickland” and you’ll find one Washington Times Article.
