A Sams Club in Southgate, Michigan is in hot water after they refused to put a Christian Cross on a woman’s cake she was buying for her son. Brandi Dypka went to Sams Club to order a cake for her son to celebrate his dedication to Church. She asked for the bakery to put the words God Bless with a Christian cross on the cake. The bakery refused to do this, stating they do not put Christian crosses or anything else religious on cakes:
“She said, ‘I’m sorry we can’t do that.’
I said, ‘Is there a reason?’
And she said, ‘Yeah we just don’t do the religious crosses on the cakes. We don’t pipe them.” – Brandi’s conversation with store employee
Brandi had the exact same cake made at the exact same location just a year before. She was very concerned about this new policy so she decided to contact corporate headquarters. The response she got from them was even more bizarre. Corporate headquarters made it sound like they didn’t want to get involved. A line in the email even said “If you don’t like the cake, don’t purchase it.”
Brandi then contacted the local media, who ran this story:
Suddenly Sams Club had a change of heart and decided to bake the cake with the cross on it for Brandi. The question is, why did it take the local media getting involved to do this? I can remember a time when a Christian couple was sued for not baking a cake for a gay couple, however when the shoe is on the other foot, it’s perfectly fine to discriminate against Christians?
What has happened to our country?
