A Florida Mayor is in hot water after a comment she made to a police officer during an encounter at a local grocery store. When Stuart Mayor Eula Clarke walked into the local grocery and noticed a Police Officer was also shopping, she walked up to the man and said “What are we serving, pig today?” According to Blue Lives Matter, the officer was very upset by this as this wasn’t just a random person saying this, this was the town Mayor.
After the story initially broke the mayor was confronted about the incident by WPTV in West Palm Beach Florida:
WPTV “So what happened on January the 11 involving a Stuart police officer?”
Clarke: “Andrew, I told you I want to make a short statement to the public.”
WPTV: “Did you make reference to a pig in reference to a Stuart police officer?”
Clarke: “Again, I’m telling you that I support law enforcement,”
Mayor Clarke would later admit the incident did happen. She claims she met with the officer and apologized and is ready to do the same for the entire police officer. Many believe this isn’t enough, they would like the mayor to resign. It’s also safe to say if the shoe was on the other foot, and the same police officer walked up to the mayor in a grocery store and called her a racist name, he’d probably immediately have to resign. The backlash would be so severe #blacklivesmatter would probably march in the town, however when the roles are reversed as they are in this story, the silence from the media is deafening.
Mayor Clarke has received significant backlash on her Facebook Page. Many users were posting comments detailing their outrage for her comment, while others posted memes directed at Clarke. At the time of writing this, there were hundreds of comments on all of her posts. People appear to be very upset about this.
